Tomato Seed Planting For Spring 2019

This year, I'm trying to plant tomato seeds a little earlier than I normally do.  In previous years, I had the best of intentions, but it seems like it would be the middle of January before I planted them.  This year, I had a plan.

December 18, 2018 - Planted

I used the Burpee Seed Starting Kit again and used the Burpee Celebrity Hybrid Tomato seeds like I normally do.  I love this type of seed because it seems to do well in Florida where I live.  I love the Burpee Seed Starting Kit as it is just easy and works well.

December 23, 2018 - Seedlings Emerge

There are 10 seedlings that emerged today going into day 5 since planting.  The following picture is not real easy to see them, but if I look closely, they are there.

House temperatures have ranged from about 70 to 75

I've got each cell numbered so I can easily monitor things.

All but two are germinated and up.  It doesn't look like they will come up, but everything else is doing fine.  We were gone for a few days, so the remaining germinations I didn't record on the exact date they popped up out of the soil.

AreoGarden - Week Number 4

I was gone on vacation for the past week and wow, week 4 has surprised me!  The way things had been growing, I expected some growth, but not like what I saw when I got home.  The salad greens, Romaine and Baby Greens, were growing like there was no tomorrow.

Some of the plants had proliferated that they were touching their lives and the tips of their leaves were scorched.  I thought I had allowed enough space between the plants and the light, but apparently, I miscalculated my estimation.

The first couple of weeks had used barely any water, but when I got home, the "add water" indicator was on, and I could see it was nearly dry inside the reservoir tank.  Since I had just added food before I left, I did not add any more when I filled the water.  I'm not sure if I was right or wrong on that.  It is due to add water in a couple of days anyway.

The Cilantro did not emerge.  I also noticed that the herbs were probably not the best thing to put in with the salad greens and other stuff.  The Rosemary and Mint are growing, but not very quickly.  It is a lesson learned.

We did enjoy some of the salad greens, and they taste so good!

AreoGarden - Week Number 3

This is now week 3, and everything except the cilantro is emerging.  The Baby Greens are really taking off and so is the Romaine and Salad Greens.

On Day 14, I put the plant food in and added water.  There was still plenty of water in the reservoir but I filled it back up to the fill line.

It seemed that after I put the plant food in, everything perked up and started growing.

I'm disappointed the Cilantro did not emerge and I'm guessing it will not show up now.

One of the things I was not sure on when I planted the AreoGarden was how much to put in one garden.  I put the three greens stated above plus the three herbs.  The herbs are growing at a much slower rate and so I can see problems with the light being high enough for the salad greens, but too high for the herbs.

I'm not sure if I did things correctly or not as that part of planting the AreoGarden was confusing.  Next time, I'll try not to do that and see if there is any difference.

I did eat the pruned salad greens and they tasted so good!
